What do a real-life rock star and a Bible scholar have in common? You’d be surprised.

When U2 frontman Bono asked for a meetup with Eugene Peterson (author of contemporary-language Bible translation The Message), Dr. Peterson turned him down. It was nothing personal; he had a deadline looming and just didn’t have the time. (Even for Bono!)

They eventually did meet and, as this short film shows, had a thoughtful conversation about transparency, emotions, and why Bono is sometimes “suspicious of Christians.” And yes, Bono does sing a little, too.

Bonus thought for the day: the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah as performance artist. Who knew God was so avant-garde?
