It’s not every day that a brand-new event launches into the world, but last Friday was that day. So for all of you who were not with us in Columbus, here’s a taste of this special inaugural weekend.

BELONG music artist Sharon Irving spoke for all of us at BELONG when she posted, “Feels like this is the beginning of something revolutionary and beyond my human understanding. Grateful we get to bring the full weight of ourselves to the stage, when so many of us have struggled to find our voice.”

Just one of many musical moments throughout the weekend.

Check it out, we have a band! Sharon Irving and Nichole Nordeman make beautiful music together with our “house band,” the multi-talented After the Rescue.

Laura C. shared “I am not someone who goes to “women’s events” – I do NOT like super-emotional, cheesy, get in touch with your emotions, types of gatherings. But this weekend, I needed to hear from God – so I went to Belong. What did I get? No cheese. It was one of the best events I’ve ever been to. Women getting real with their pain, encouraging us to go beyond our comfort zones in non-traditional ways, helping us to think outside of the box when it comes to our walk with God and the way we interact with others. I was changed, and in the midst of the weekend, laughed myself silly and cried many cleansing tears. I heard from God…”

“WHOA.” Shauna posted on Friday night. “First night of the BELONG tour. I’m blown away by the music, the beauty, the bravery, the sense of hope in that room. We’ve been dreaming about it for so long & the reality of it was even sweeter.”

Angela Davis

Angela Davis got our motors running.

Angela Davis got everyone up on our feet and moving. And as one dear BELONGer—who started out a little dubious about the whole workout thing—wrote, “It turns out, Angela, that you are fun and uplifting and amazing and gifted and I like to squat-clap-punch-punch. You’re not even scary at all.”

Jen Hatmaker made us laugh...and tear up.

Jen’s take on the weekend: “You guys, I took notes and cried and fangirled and took pictures and videos this weekend at Belong as if I wasn’t even actually on the team. I heard and learned so many important, life-giving words from my friends: birds, garages, green lollipops—these all became sacred things through their stories. . . . Nichole Nordeman sang the Slow Down mom song and the entire team fell apart. Just everything. Just everyone. Columbus, what a dear heart you were. Everyone coming to a Belong event: you’re going to be so glad you did.”

The one and only Patsy Clairmont.

Beth U. “Loved this weekend! First time coming to an event like this and I felt like everyone was speaking directly to me and my season of life. Taking home four of the books to read and share with my small group. ”

” You girls weren’t judgey or preachy or legalistic..” —Heather R.

“What a lot of people don’t know is that 150 women that had just been rescued out of human trafficking in Columbus were there. These women got to hear raw, vulnerable and very real, funny, powerful stories that you wouldn’t normally get in a “church” setting…they were able to find out that they are powerful and strong and that God has a plan and purpose for them apart from their past. They got to hear crazy amazing music that was outside of the “religious box”…being sung by Christians that are reaching into a world that is increasingly offended by the word “Christian.” Jesus told parables and stories that made sense to people – reaching into their hearts. That’s exactly what happened this weekend! I kept saying over and over, “this isn’t cheesy!!! It’s amazing how the Belong gals are thinking outside of the normal ministry box and bringing Jesus to us in very relate-able and powerful ways! AND we get to have fun at the same time!” Laura C.

Megan H. “I found the weekend to be amazing. I came looking for God and He was there. I’m grateful for a space where I can invite the women in my life who aren’t ready to talk about God but are ready to be in a space where we lift one another up. . . . Thank you for creating that space. And for acknowledging how badly it is needed. Keep doing just.what.you’re.doing!!”
